A weekend of scenic drives to 4 PA State Parks

Last weekend I enjoyed driving on windy roads up and down the mountains of Central Pennsylvania during my recent trip to visit a few Pennsylvania State Parks. Just 2 hours from Harrisburg, I camped at Bald Eagle State Park’s modern campground on Friday evening. (It is actually named Russell P. Letterman Campground.) I enjoyed a warm fire and secluded campsite with hardly anyone around. It was fantastic!

The following evening after cooking my “linner” of scrambled eggs and a grilled cheese sandwich, I realized I used all of the wood I’d brought so I decided to book a room in the Nature Inn, right inside the park! This amazing hotel features rooms with scenic views of the lake and offers a delightful and filling hot breakfast overlooking the lake.

On Saturday I traveled up and down the mountains from Bald Eagle State Park to nearby Black Moshannon State Park, Whipple Dam State Park, and Greenwood Furnace State Park. The first stop at each park was to get my passport stamp for the 52 State Park Challenge that I’ve been doing this year.

This brings my total to 35 PA State Parks that I’ve visited in 2021. Check out my Facebook Page for more hikes and updates on the 2022 Photo Calendar, which will feature 12 images from this year’s hikes at state parks.
