Susquehanna Art Museum and the Mulberry Street Bridge Mural Preservation and Relocation Committee hosted a music festival fundraiser at River City Blues Club & Dart Room August 23.
All funds raised support the preservation and relocation of the much loved Mulberry St. Bridge Murals.
The murals were installed 2003-2006. Cesar Viveros, a mural artist from Mexico, and Elody Gyekis, a mural artist from PA, were the artists-in-residence for the spans of murals, which hundreds of students and volunteers helped paint.
In April of 2014, PennDOT moved the murals to safe storage provided by Equilibrium Equities. Due to design changes in the revamped bridge, the murals were not able to be reinstalled. The MBMPRC is working with Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers, Inc and the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg to relocate 43 of the panels known as the North Murals, which depict a historical timeline of Harrisburg, to the corner of Market and Cameron Streets.
